Nosachika Misaki

Born in Hokkaido, Japan,1988. Drawn to natural materials and tactile sensations from an early age, I began creating artworks independently, focusing on material-based expressions. Among the many materials I explored, I was particularly captivated by tissue paper—an everyday, delicate medium. One day, while painting to release stress, I happened to attach tissue paper to my work. The softly diffused colors and gentle texture brought a sense of relief, and I became deeply engaged with the material. The repetitive act of layering and adhering the tissue came to feel like a kind of “care,” transforming the creative process into a healing experience.

I named this unique technique “tissuecolor®︎” and have continued to develop it since 2016, obtaining a trademark in 2020. The word “tissue” encompasses multiple meanings—fabric, paper, cellular tissue, and something woven. For me, it symbolizes “something formed through the gathering of small elements.” The process of layering, dyeing, and peeling back tissue evokes the uncovering of emotional and memory-laden layers, and I now center my practice around the themes of tactility, traces, and memory.

I am also deeply interested in the act of touching itself. Unlike vision, touch is a sense that can only be realized through direct contact. Having worked in a profession involving physical touch, I have become keenly aware of how touch can awaken memory and how subtle differences in the way we touch can shift emotional responses. These experiences have greatly influenced my artistic practice.

In recent years, I have been further exploring the structure and properties of tissue as a material, while also using it as a support medium. Through dialogue with materials—including diatomaceous earth and plant fibers, both composed of minuscule accumulated elements—I seek to express the emotional resonance and residual impressions of touch. My current work continues to explore the intersection of memory, tactility, and materiality.

1988年、北海道生まれ。美術作家。自然物や手触りの良いものに惹かれ、特に素材を用いた表現に関心を持ち、独学で制作を始めました。さまざまな素材を試すなかで出会ったのが、身近で繊細な素材・ティッシュです。ある日、ストレス発散のように描いていた中で、たまたま手元にあったティッシュを貼ってみたところ、淡くにじむ色合いや柔らかな質感に救われるような感覚があり、以来この素材に強く惹かれていきました。ティッシュを貼り、重ねていく反復の行為は「手当て」にも似た感覚を伴い、制作そのものが自己を癒す時間へと変化していきました。

この独自の技法に「tissuecolor®︎」と名付け、2016年より制作を継続。2020年には商標を取得しました。「tissue」という言葉には、布、紙、細胞組織、織られたものなど複数の意味がありますが、私にとっては「小さなものが集まって形になる」象徴的な存在です。ティッシュを重ね、染め、剥がすというプロセスは、内面の感情や記憶の層を掘り起こす行為でもあり、現在はこの技法を中心に、「触覚・痕跡・記憶」というテーマを探究しています。

また、触れるという行為そのものにも関心を持ち続けています。触覚は視覚よりも対象との距離が近く、接触によってのみ成立する感覚です。人に触れる仕事に携わっていた経験から、触れ方によって生まれる感情の変化や、触れることで呼び起こされる記憶に注目するようになりました。その経験は現在の作品にも深く影響を与えています。

さらに近年では、tissueそのものの構造や性質に対する探究を深めると同時に、tissueを支持体として用いながら、触れることによって立ち上がる感覚や、そこに残された痕跡をすくい取るように、素材との対話を通じた「記憶」と「触覚」の表現に取り組んでいます。
